AAF supports the Feinstein/Lugar resolution on Israel-Palestine and urges quick passage.

Paterson, NJ, July 10, 2007: The American Arab Forum, AAF,  endorses Senate Resolution 224, known as the Feinstein/Lugar resolution on Israel/Palestine which will be voted on this week.

The Feinstein/Lugar resolution is a bi-partisan pro-peace  resolution that calls for active U.S. engagement to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. It represents a sharp departure from the usual language in resolutions about Israel and the Palestinians and more closely echoes the pro-peace positions shared the vast majority of Americans.
This resolution calls on President Bush to make a two-state solution a “top priority,” urges him to appoint a Special Envoy for Middle East Peace, and welcomes the Arab League Peace Initiative.  The resolution states clearly that resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is “in the vital interests of the United States, Israel, and the Palestinian people” and that “achieving Israeli-Palestinian peace could have significant impacts on security and stability in the region.”

Aref Assaf, President of AAF, stated that "while the Israel/Palestine conflict continues to elude peaceful resolution, the need for a more engaged US role is pivotal." Mr. Assaf called "on our two NJ Senators, Frank  Lautenberg and Senator Menendez to sign on as cosponsors of the resolution." Mr. Assaf added that, "Both Senators have a long and shining history of supporting peaceful resolutions to the conflict and we urge them to back this proactive measure." End
